Cherwell District Council – ‘Bolton Road Car Park’
In autumn 2016, Cherwell District Council demolished the Bolton Road multi-storey car park after an independent report identified significant structural concerns.
The stairwell tower was retained due to technical issues with the telecoms mounted on the roof but it will now be demolished to create an additional ten parking spaces.
Cllr George Reynolds, Cherwell’s deputy leader, said: “We are now in a position to demolish the final remains of the tower and whilst this may cause some short term disruption, it will have a long term benefit by providing an additional ten spaces for drivers.
“During these works additional dust may be created; the contractors will do their best to minimise this but we would like to forewarn customers. We do apologise for any disruption whilst these works are taking place and thank customers for their patience during this time.”
From Monday 8th January to Friday 16th March work to demolish the remaining buildings and tower will take place.
Between Monday 8th January to Sunday 28th January the car park will be open as normal, but 14 bays will be reserved to accommodate a site office and the exit road will be reduced to one lane.
From Monday 29th January until Friday 2nd February, the entire car park will need to be completely closed while demolition of the topmost section takes place.
Then from Saturday 3rd February until Friday 16th March the car park will reopen, but 14 parking bays will again be reserved to accommodate the site office and the exit road will remain restricted to one lane.
The car park will then reopen as normal from Saturday 17th March with an additional ten spaces.
