My name is Adam Hewins. I have recently joined Bodicote Parish Council and will be sitting on the Planning Committee.
I have lived in the area for over 20 years, and moved to Wykham Lane 3 years ago. I come from a rural background – my mother is from a farming family and my father spent his working life in the agricultural machinery trade. I am a Chartered Engineer and have 25 years experience in the automotive industry with various vehicle manufacturers, engineering consultants and suppliers in the area.
I enjoy village life, and while the proximity to Banbury and all its facilities can be convenient I am also adamant that we need to maintain our separate identity and character. The pressure for additional housing development is undeniable, but I will do my best to try and ensure that any such development is as sensitive as possible to its environs and that a standard of design and construction is maintained to the benefit of existing and future residents of the village.
I do not underestimate the challenge ahead, in the face of vested interests of local landowners and a District Council that has a history of ignoring and overriding the views of the village.
I have been an active member of the Bodicote At Risk group, and a vocal advocate of the proposed Neighbourhood Plan, which I am convinced is our best defense against unsympathetic development. However, the Parish Council cannot create this on our own as we are a small band, so I would appeal to everyone with an interest in our future to come forward and get involved – “many hands make light work” may be overstating things a bit, but it will make things possible.
